Niğde – Yeşilburç – Hasaköy –Derinkuyu

The character of the Route:

Starting from the historical city of Niğde, once the capital of Cappadocia, this long route begins to climb in the impressive geography of volcanoes. Touching history in the exchanged villages on the road, the track progresses towards places of worship and shrines from ancient civilizations. The route, which proceeds on a straight course after the 28th km, leaves the volcanoes behind and ends in the world-famous underground settlement Derinkuyu.

Notes to Travelers:

• You can have a pleasant time at the Archeology Museum of this old city, which was once the capital of the Kingdom of Cappadocia.
• You can take impressive photos in Niğde's famous Cullaz Street and the Seljuk heritage Alaaddin Mosque (active since 1223 AD) and visit Niğde Castle, located in the heart of the city.
• You can photograph the Gündoğdu Tomb and the tomb that Hüdavend Hatun had built for her in Niğde in 1312. Hüdavend Hatun Tomb is an original architectural work without precedent or repetition. It has achieved a sense of integrity by integrating images and symbols from the common ancient cultures of the Anatolian Seljuks and Mongols with its age's technical and artistic features with a brand new interpretation and style.
• In Yeşilburç, one of the exchanged villages, you can taste the local delicacies owned by the Denee Women's Cooperative and visit the small underground city.
• If you are interested in history and local beliefs, you can visit the Greek churches in Yeşilburç and Hasaköy, the old Greek settlements, and see the Gülbaba Tomb in Güllüce.
• You can visit the famous Derinkuyu Underground City.
• Make sure you take enough water with you, as you cannot replenish water along the way.
• Since you are on a long route, having a snack with you is useful.
